1. Definitions
In these terms, "we", "us", and "our" refer to Thep Timeworks, 56 Thanon Thanon, Wat Ket, Chiang Mai 50000, Thailand. "You" and "your" refer to the customer leaving a watch with us. "The watch" or "the timepiece" refers to the item entrusted to us for service or restoration.
2. Accepting work
All work begins with an initial assessment. Before any repair or restoration is started, we will discuss our findings with you and explain what we propose to do. We will not proceed without your agreement.
Where we discover additional work is needed once a watch has been opened, we will pause and contact you before continuing. You are always free to decide not to proceed, in which case we will reassemble the watch to the best practical state and return it to you. An assessment or partial disassembly fee may apply in this case, which we will communicate to you at the outset.
3. Estimates and prices
Price estimates are provided in good faith based on a visual and functional assessment of the watch. Final prices may vary from an initial estimate if the work required proves more extensive than initially apparent. We will always discuss any material change in scope or cost with you before proceeding.
Prices quoted on our website represent our standard service prices and apply to watches in typical condition. Unusually complex, damaged, or non-standard watches may attract a different price, which we will confirm in writing before beginning work.
All prices are quoted in Thai Baht and include labour. Parts, if required, may be quoted separately.
4. Turnaround times
Indicative turnaround times are given as a helpful guide and are not a binding commitment. The nature of mechanical watchmaking means that some work takes longer than initially anticipated, particularly where a watch presents unusual challenges or where parts need to be sourced.
We will keep you informed of progress and will let you know promptly if a job is likely to take significantly longer than expected. We ask for your patience and understanding in return for work that is done properly.
5. Parts and materials
Where parts are required, we will discuss options with you before ordering. We source parts responsibly and aim to use period-correct or equivalent-quality components for vintage work wherever this is possible and appropriate.
Replaced parts are available for you to take back on request. If you have no preference, worn or superseded parts will be disposed of responsibly.
6. Service assurance
We stand behind our work and offer a period of service assurance on completed repairs, the duration of which will be stated on your service receipt. During this period, if the watch develops a fault directly related to the work we carried out, we will investigate and address it at no additional charge.
Service assurance does not cover:
- Damage arising from accident, misuse, or exposure to conditions beyond the watch's design rating
- Faults in parts of the movement or watch that were not included in the agreed scope of work
- Normal wear of components over time
- Subsequent service or adjustment carried out by another party
7. Collection and uncollected watches
We will contact you when your watch is ready for collection. Watches should be collected within a reasonable time following notification, ordinarily within 60 days. We will make two attempts to reach you.
Watches that remain uncollected after 180 days, despite reasonable attempts to contact the owner, may be disposed of in order to recoup outstanding charges. We will write to you by post before taking any such step, and we would greatly prefer to find another arrangement.
We accept no liability for loss or damage caused by circumstances beyond our control while a watch is in our care, including fire, flood, or theft despite reasonable security measures.
8. Liability
We take the care of your watch seriously and handle all pieces with appropriate skill and attention. In the unlikely event of loss or damage caused by our negligence, our liability is limited to the fair market value of the watch at the time it was left with us.
We are not responsible for any consequential, indirect, or sentimental losses. We strongly recommend that you maintain appropriate insurance for valuable timepieces.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.
9. Vintage and pre-existing condition
When accepting a vintage or previously damaged watch, we document its condition at intake. For restorations, the goal is to return a timepiece to a functioning and dignified state while respecting its history. We do not remove or alter original finishing unless specifically asked and agreed.
Some vintage watches contain components that are unavailable or can only be approximated with modern equivalents. In such cases we will discuss options clearly before proceeding. We do not accept responsibility for the natural limitations of aged or worn components.
10. Payment
Payment is due upon collection of the watch. We accept cash and common electronic payment methods as displayed in the workshop. Watches will not be released until payment has been received in full.
If you are unable to collect or pay in person, please contact us in advance so we can make a suitable arrangement.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Thailand. Any disputes arising under them will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Chiang Mai, Thailand. We hope, of course, that any concerns can be resolved through straightforward conversation well before any formal step becomes necessary.
